Playful humpback whales have been spotted making a splash off the English coast.

Locals were left buzzing after spotting huge mammals which usually live in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

Wildlife photographer Dan Abbott couldn’t believe his luck when he captured some stunning footage of the mammals at Watergate Bay in Cornwall.

Just one day later, another humpback whale was spotted near Hastings in East Sussex.

Ricky Martin was able to record the animal’s huge tail making a splash in the water.

His footage was captured at 2:35 pm last Friday (3 January), as reported by What’s The Jam.

Dan said: “It is the first few sightings of the winter season which is quite exciting.

“There are going to be questions about why there are more humpbacks because seeing a humpback over the years isn’t completely unheard of.

“But there does seem to be an increase in numbers and especially last year, it was incredible for humpback sightings around Cornwall.”

Members of the public were blown away by the footage.
