A savvy mum has revealed how she managed to save nearly £250 for Christmas without even realising – and it’s all thanks to a super simple habit.
Oonagh Rocks, 31, has always preferred using cash over cards.
The mum-of-three and content creator started her clever trick around six months ago after picking up a couple of savings tins from the pound shop.

One tin was reserved for smaller loose change – every 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p she had rattling around in her purse.
After a few months, Oonagh, from Belfast, finally decided to cash in her collection at the bank – and was stunned to discover how much she’d stashed away.

In a TikTok video, she said: “If you’re interested in saving a wee bit of money effortlessly, or you’re not gonna feel like putting it away every month, then stay tuned.
“This is a video for you.
“Cash is king to me.

“I always use cash.
“I need to land the money off somebody, land it in cash, give money back to somebody, cash.

“Always, always, always.
“Anyway, I bought myself a tin from the pound shop – one for pound coins, which I haven’t emptied yet, and a bigger one for all my small change – 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, 10ps, 20ps and 50ps.
“There are a few £1 and £2 coins in there as well.
“I first got it about six months ago; I’d been whacking change in every time there was some left in my purse – whacking it in, whacking it in, all the time.
“Then I went to put money in the other day and it was full – so I bought a new tin and took the old one to the bank.
“I couldn’t believe it – nearly £250. I can’t get over it – that’s a good whack of Christmas sorted.
“I’m buzzing.”
Since sharing her video online, Oonagh’s simple saving hack has racked up plenty of attention from fellow TikTok users, as reported by What’s The Jam.
One viewer asked her to show the size of the tin, while others admitted they struggle to save and wanted to try the trick themselves.
“Oh I need to try this, I’m horrible with saving money,” Bethany said.

Nicole added: “I’d love to be able to do this – I’m terrible at managing money.”
Others said they’d already bought a tin after seeing her clip, with one fan writing that they were “so excited” to start saving.

Diana added: “That’s such a good idea but I never have cash.”
