A money-savvy woman has revealed the clever frugal hacks she swears by – and anyone can do them.
Lauren Thorpe says she and her partner live by a few golden rules when it comes to saving cash, all while still enjoying life as a young couple.
The 28-year-old says she has made it her mission to find everyday tricks that make her money go further.

Her first hack is all about haircare – instead of wasting pricey shampoo on the first wash, she uses a cheap bottle to get rid of dirt and grease before following up with her favourite salon brand.
The community fundraiser, from Sheffield, says the trick helps her expensive shampoo last far longer – and keeps her hair feeling fresh without breaking the bank.
She said: “When I first wash my hair, I use a cheap shampoo.

“Cheap shampoo gets the dirt and grease out of the way, and then you’re actually letting your expensive shampoo do the work and you’re not using as much product.”
Next up, she’s ditched plastic shower gel bottles altogether in favour of good old-fashioned bars of soap.

Not only do they last ages, but they’re cheaper, cleaner and far better for the environment.
Lauren said: “Not only does this make you feel loads cleaner, but they last way longer, and it also works out a lot cheaper than buying lots of bottles of shower gel.
“This really reduces plastic waste, which I’m here for.”

And when it comes to big purchases, Lauren’s rule is simple – if she can’t afford it, she doesn’t buy it.
Instead, she sets a little aside each month until she can pay for it outright.
Lauren says the approach has stopped her from overspending and helped her stay on top of her finances.
She added: “And the last one is that we’re going to save for something to buy it – we’re not going to get into debt for it.
“So if we can’t afford it, we don’t buy it.
“Like, I need a new phone at the minute, but I’m just going to put some money aside each month until I can afford one, rather than going into debt for it.”
Lauren posted her money-saving tips online and has already notched up 39,000 views and a flood of comments from fellow thrifty followers eager to share their own hacks.
One user agreed with Lauren’s soap swap, writing: “Totally agree, always use bars of soap – shower gel is a waste of money and liquid hand wash etc.”

Another offered a clever bathroom trick of their own, saying: “I have a glass bottle with a pump and put shampoo in it so I don’t use that much.”
