A woman has shared how she transformed her “boring” wardrobe after quitting her corporate gig.

When Paulomi Debnath started a career in corporate hotel sales, she was “forced” to wear dark suits, knee-length skirts and plain blouses.

The international hospitality manager longed to wear loud pops of pink and yellow, coupled with unique accessories.

Soon, the 44-year-old became stuck in a rut and struggled to find her once vibrant personality when filling up her wardrobe.

Until one day, when she decided she’d had enough.

After she quit her job in favour of starting her own jewellery brand, Paulomi overhauled her lifeless wardrobe into a beautiful rainbow of colours.

And she finally feels like herself again.

“I believe colour spreads joy – it’s my tagline,” the sustainable jewellery designer, from London, told What’s The Jam.

“But in my old job, I became very restrictive about the clothes I would wear.

“The shape and colours didn’t suit my body type and I quickly found myself feeling low.

“After I changed careers, I decided it was time to revamp my style, so I stored away all my professional and boring clothes – and started to embrace the real me.

“I never used to wear anything shorter than the knee – now look at me.

“At first, I started dressing up friends and family to try out what I thought would look good.

“And then over time, I wore these outfits in public more and more to see if they would have acceptance in society.

“I’ve been experimenting with different colours, even ones that people wouldn’t think usually match.

“But I’ve finally found my style; I actually feel like me again.”

Paulomi takes pride in finding beautiful vintage and pre-loved items and mixing them with modern looks.

She adds unique pops of jewellery which she crafts herself, selling them through her company, Handmade by Tinni.

People respond differently to her style – while some say she is “too loud”, others say Paulomi looks “like a ray of sunshine”.

She hopes to share her story to encourage other women to take the leap and embrace their true style – no matter what anybody else thinks.

Paulomi added: “You’ve got to learn what goes with what and that simply comes with age and knowledge, mixed with trial and error.

“It’s not something that can be found straight away and it takes a lot of determination.

“But when you finally put on an outfit, look in the mirror and see that smile from ear to ear, it’s all worth it.

“I’m finally doing something that I am very proud of, as it represents me wholeheartedly; joyful and happy.

“Anybody can add colour – in very small or big ways – and it lifts our moods.

“You’ve got to embrace happiness in life, and going for a colourful wardrobe is the way to do this.”
