A fashion stylist has struck gold after discovering a treasure trove of binned vintage clothing.

Millie Diamond found the treasures dumped in bin bags in industrial refuse bins.

The 35-year-old business owner said she is always on the lookout for abandoned second-hand gear.

A video showed her making her latest amazing find in East London, while struggling to get down to the depths of one particularly large bin.

“I’m always on the hunt when I’m out and about in the city, whether it’s a weekend wander, or to and from my studio,” she told What’s The Jam.

“You never know what gems you might come across.

“This was very much a right-place, right-time moment.

“I noticed a bin that clearly wasn’t just general rubbish – there were bags inside bursting with clothing.

“My curiosity got the better of me, so I ripped one open and had a quick peek.

“I hoped it was full of wearable pieces rather than damaged or dirty stuff but there was only one way to find out.

“What the video doesn’t really show is how quick it all was.

“I didn’t rummage for hours, it was more of a ‘grab now, deal with later’ situation.

“I felt like I’d struck gold.

“They just kept on coming.

“I think the first haul was around 20 bags of clothes.”

Explaining her motivation, Millie went on: “I love unique and vintage clothing so it was amazing to find a whole heap of vintage dresses as well as some 1990s and 2000s throwbacks like Criminal Damage with labels still on.

“It’s been really fun to play around with the finds – my social media audience are obsessed and now call it the Trash Goblin saga.

“I love being able to show people how, with the right eye and skilful styling, you can literally turn trash to treasure.

“It was just down to my curiosity.

“I’m super nosey and visually led, so if something catches my eye, I’ll always take a closer look.

“I think that’s why people really got behind it.

“It was a genuine moment that was some people’s wildest dreams and others’ biggest nightmare.”

While many people applauded Millie’s dedication to thrift and green credentials, some of the video’s viewers were a little concerned.

Ailiecat said: “I would suggest quarantining [the clothes] for bedbugs before introducing them to the wardrobe! Sorry for the unsolicited advice!”

Wienkes agreed, saying: “That could be why someone would get rid of bags and bags of nicer clothes… bedbugs are hard to get rid of so just be warned.”
