A woman has gone viral on Instagram sharing a simple hack to keep flowers lasting longer this spring – and all you need is one basic household item.
Danielle, from the Midlands, was researching online for some tips when she discovered one that said adding bleach to a vase of water could keep flowers fresh for more than two weeks.
The 28-year-old was thrilled to find it worked and took to Instagram to share the hack – where her post garnered 10 million views.

“The flowers stayed alive for two weeks and were still going,” Danielle told What’s The Jam.
“I didn’t change the water or cut the stems.
“If I had done it, it might have stayed better for even longer!
“I love it and it’s a household item I always have.
“I’ve tried lemonade before too as my nan always used to use it and that works great if not better really but I don’t always have lemonade.”

In the clip shared online, Danielle can be seen pouring household bleach into a vase of water before adding a bunch of red roses.
She then shares the results one week on, showing the roses still very much alive.
Then, there is a clip of them two weeks on, slightly wilting but still looking relatively fresh.

The post was captioned: “Result after trying the viral bleach hack…
“I was sceptical at first but now it’s just a normal part of my routine when I get fresh flowers,’ and has gained over 270,000 likes, as well as hundreds of comments from viewers.”
One user, Samy, said: “I didn’t know this, and for some reason, I expected the flowers to turn white/yellow.”
Lisa added: “I thought bleach killed everything!! Reluctant to try this tbh.”
Lisa commented: “Doesn’t it make the room smell of bleach?”
Someone else wrote: “I thought the roses would change their colour.”
Some followers also gave their own advice.
Aubrey said: “Pure alcohol also works! It helps slow down the aging process within the flower’s cells.”
John added: “They say use actual copper pennies and it should work.”
Len wrote: “Of course it does work! I been doing this for more than 20 years. Just drop of bleach.”
