A mum-of-one has revealed how she saves $500 USD (£395) by bulk buying everyday essentials – revealing the key items that every parent should purchase in large quantities.

Loren, 23, first began doing this herself after her son, Prince, turned one year old.

Struggling with the high cost of baby products, the new mum and partner, Jatorian, 24, soon found themselves splashing $300 on diapers and wipes alone.

Worried about future expenses, Lauren knew something needed to change.

The solution? Membership-only shopping.

Sharing her story to TikTok, where she has 4,000 followers, (@allthingsjerae ), fellow users have been left stunned by the simple hack – with over 300,000 views.

“I started buying in bulk when my son was about one year old,” Loren told What’sTheJam.com.

“I knew I needed to find a way to save money as we are now a family of three.

“I have always been into budgeting and saving money for doing the things we love, such as traveling and going to events.”

So, what should you buy in bulk and how do membership-only shops actually work?

The cost of joining can differ depending on which one you go with.

Loren chose Sam’s Club, which charges a fee from $50 a year for the Club membership or $110 per year for the Plus option – with a few extras included for the pricier deal, such as free savings and free shipping, etc.

Another example is Costco, which also exists in the UK, with prices starting at $60 per year for two people in the same household.

Loren claims to have saved $500 from bulk buying in 2023, focusing on things such as “detergent, cleaning solution, paper towels, toilet paper, OxiClean, and snacks.”

She added: “My top tips for buying in bulk is to buy the items you know you are going to use.

The best part is that these items [mentioned above] won’t expire and you are guaranteed that your family will use them.

“[I also purchase] meat such as beef, pork, and drinks such as soda or Gatorade.”

“When I buy in bulk the bill is pretty large upfront, it can range between $200-275 or so.

“[But] the same items I purchase a four-pack at Sam’s for $10 – a singular product is $4-5.”

Loren typically does a trip every quarter and this allows her to spend even more time with her son and family.

She said: “Time is so precious to me so I can spend it with my family and friends.

“I don’t want to worry about going to the store weekly.”

Users have rushed to the comment section to share their excitement at the mum’s savings.

Halle commented: “Oxi clean is only $17???? I always go to Sam’s and never realized this I get a smaller container at Walmart for $12 and it doesn’t last that long.”

Alexandra commented,” If I buy in bulk, my kids eat in bulk.”

Another user added: ”This total bill hurts the day you buy it but it is bliss to not run out of tp or laundry soap or trash bags for like a year.”

Klay said: “Being alone I buy paper towels and toilet paper like once a year buying in bulk.”
