Mrs Hinch fans have shared a simple trick for dealing with one of the most annoying problems that comes with using bars of soap — the tiny leftover slivers that become difficult to use.

The money-saving tip emerged after one woman asked fellow cleaning fans for advice on what to do with the small leftover pieces from Dove soap bars.

Posting in the hugely popular Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, which is dedicated to cleaning and home hacks inspired by influencer Sophie Hinchliffe, one user explained she had recently swapped liquid handwash for bars of soap.

She wrote: “I have started using Dove soap instead of hand wash in those bottles; it’s really lovely on my face as well; how can I make these small pieces into one please.”

The post quickly attracted dozens of replies, with many members sharing the same surprisingly simple solution — sticking the leftover soap onto a fresh bar while it is wet.

One of the most-liked responses came from Maree, who wrote: “Squeeze the little bit onto a new bar when it’s wet.”

Others agreed the trick works well.

Pam replied: “exactly. Same as with any bar of soap !!!”

Karen suggested: “Squash it on gently when wet xx.”

Meanwhile, Ronnie recommended soaking the leftover pieces first to help them bond together more effectively.

She wrote: “I soak the little pieces in water for about half an hour then press it into the curved side of the big soap. Let soap dry out a bit so that the little piece of soap can bond.”

The simple trick could help households save money by reducing waste and making sure bars are fully used before being thrown away.

Soap bars often become difficult to grip once they shrink down to small slivers, leading many people to bin them before they are fully finished.

By pressing the remaining pieces into a fresh wet bar and allowing them to dry together, users can effectively create a brand new larger bar instead.
