A video has gone viral of a teenager and her friends parasailing when they were greeted by a shark.

Maddison Rorex had gone to the beach with her friend, Chloe, and her family, when they decided to take part in the water sport.

But it soon turned into a nightmare.

While parasailing, the pair spotted four strange figures in the water, which turned out to be sharks.

The video, shared on TikTok, has terrified users, racking up over 14 million views.

“Our only option was to start kicking,” Maddison, from Madisonville, Louisiana, US, told What’s The Jam.

“Especially after getting dipped [in the water], literally, on top of about four sharks.”

The incident happened at Santa Rosa Beach in Florida.

Piercing screams can be heard in the clip as the panicked teenagers are lowered into the water.

They kick their legs out in a bid to ward off the sharks.

Thankfully, the pair make it safely back to the boat, where they join Chloe’s family.

But the near-miss remains in their minds.

Maddison said: “I remember just being terrified that they were actually going to put us in the water after I saw the sharks under us.

“Once they did I remember being even more scared that something was going to happen to one of us.

“Even though it was so scary at the moment, looking back on the things we said while it was happening is pretty funny.

“I have not been parasailing again since and don’t know if I will go again.”

The incident originally took place in August 2019, but was only sharked on TikTok last week, where it has since gone viral.

The story comes just days after Floridian Marlin Deere Wakeman recounted how he was attacked by two sharks at Flying Fish Marina on Long Island in the Bahamas on 26 April.

Earlier this year, in February, Navarre Beach Fire Rescue also reported that a 1,500-lb great white shark had washed up on a beach in the Florida Panhandle.

There have been 500 unprovoked shark attacks across the world between 1990-2000 according to the International Shark Attack File, which can be found at Florida Museum.

Maddison has been left stunned by the response her video has received online, saying: “I was shocked to see our video go viral.”

Social media users have also taken to the comment section to share their thoughts on the dramatic moment.

One person said: “That’s actually reallllyyy scary, I would be reacting the same diving into a bunch of sharks??!!”

Someone else added: “This happened to me and I’ve never mentally recovered.”

Another person said: “The repeated “ARE YOU CRAZY???” IS SENDING ME.”

“I’m never going parasailing now”, wrote someone else.
