A hockey lover has jetted off on a 1,400 mile-round extreme day trip to watch the Winter Olympics, all for less than £100.
Travel savvy John McAllister spent just 18 hours watching sport, sightseeing and eating as much Italian food as possible.
The 27-year-old paid only £96 for his flights, taxi and Winter Olympics ticket, the latter of which cost him just £26.

The travel content creator was desperate to get himself over to the tournament but was put off by the hotel prices – with some charging £1,000 a night.
“I was desperate to get to Milan and watch some of the Winter Olympics tournament, but despite having the tickets, I couldn’t justify the hotel prices,” John told Whats The Jam.

“So I decided to take an extreme day trip.
“It’s a really good way to feel like you’re getting away but within a very small time window.
“I managed to do a few hours of sightseeing in Milan city centre, tried to find some Olympics merch, had a few drinks and ate as much Italian food as time allowed.”

The early riser from Barry, Wales, jumped on a 6:25am flight from Stansted, London to Milan Malpensa Italy.

After arriving at 10:30am, John spent the day touring the city before watching Canada vs France in ice hockey on 15 Feb.
John, who shared the journey with his 5,210 subscribers @JohnMacTravels, spent a mere £54 on return Ryanair flights.

After 18 hours in the Italian city, the hockey lover caught the first flight back to London at 6am on 16 Feb.
John said: “I was very lucky and managed to get my ticket for the Canada-France match in hockey for just €30, the lowest price category.
“Every time it comes around I’m reminded about a tonne of sports I otherwise ignored for four years, something I think most viewers definitely associate with.
“But my favourite event is a sport I watch week in week out even here in the UK, ice hockey.
“Tickets to watch Wales rugby on the weekend were £120+ and considering this trip cost me less than £100, I’d say it was definitely cheaper.
