The cost of living crisis has struck once again – as a London restaurant sells two plain eggs, without toast, for a staggering £16 a portion.
Pavyllon London, which has an extensive breakfast menu, is known for its hefty price tags on dishes.
To put this potential markup into context, a packet of six free range eggs will set you back £1.50 in Tesco – equating to 25p an egg.
This means that the eggs at Pavyllon are potentially being sold to diners for 64 times more than their purchasing price.

The dish description reads: “Two eggs of your choice which can be either poached, boiled, fried or scrambled.”
However, this may be worth it to some, as the restaurant is located within the luxurious Four Seasons hotel, Park Lane.
What’s The Jam reports that there are other egg-based meals on the menu – which come with a little more than just egg whites and yolks.
Eggs Royale served with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce, for example, will set diners back £24 or they can enjoy Eggs Florentine for just £22, served with spinach and Comté cheese extraction.

You can also enjoy a full English breakfast for a comparative bargain at £42.
But if you’re wanting to really push the boat out and dine on the most expensive option, you can enjoy 50g of Caviar Prunier Baeri Paris for a staggering £455.
The restaurant has received mixed, but mostly positive, reviews online.

One diner slammed both the prices and the portion size.
They wrote: “Food portions it takes a microscope to appreciate. [Oh] my goodness. If ever a restaurant didn’t deserve star ranking this is it.
“If this represents the new London food scene, best find somewhere else as you will leave with a pain in your head, a wallet sucked dry and a stomach still quite hungry.”
A second person agreed: “It’s way behind the times and the pricing is ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, others raved about their experience.
One diner wrote: “This restaurant deserves a Michelin star. I found the food to be very good great service, indeed Worth a visit. Situated in an elegant hotel, parking was easy with the Porter.”
A second reviewer added: “My partner and i went because the restaurant rexently gained a michelin star. Wonderful food in an elegant dining room. The service was siblime.”
Another diner had particular praise for the eggs from the lunch menu.
They wrote: “Elegant place with sophisticated food. Loved the amuse- bouches and the glazed poached egg from the 5 in 55 lunch menu. Special note for the excellent crusty bread.”
The astonishing prices come after another restaurant in the capital was seen serving scrambled eggs with toast for a whopping £58.
At the Hide restaurant, located in Mayfair, the dish used to cost £32 in 2023, but had a significant increase by £4, or £26 if diners opted for white truffle instead of plain.
