A savvy student left viewers stumped after getting a supermarket clubcard barcode tattooed on him.

Lévi Tang will never miss the chance of grabbing a discount at the tills after making the bizarre decision to have his code inked onto his skin for life.

The 24-year-old made the choice after hunting for a “practical” tattoo idea – which leaves plenty of shoppers shocked.

The student shared a clip of his ink being put to the test at his local supermarket with the clip racking up a whopping 3.1m views and over 57,000 likes.

“I’d been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo that was funny, practical, and meaningful,” Lévi, who lives in Amsterdam, told What’s The Jam.

“I simply hold my arm against the scanner and it applies the weekly discounts of certain items onto my purchase.

“For as long as it remains scannable, I‘ll be enjoying the shocked and amused faces of the supermarket staff members and my fellow shoppers.”

The tattoo features a barcode on a carton of Lévi’s beloved chocolate milk.

The barcode is linked to his clubcard at Albert Heijn supermarkets – the largest chain in the Netherlands.

The student got the tattoo done in March at ‘God of Ink’ in Amsterdam, where he had been studying.

He said: “My time as a student and young professional in Amsterdam has been such a formative experience, and I’ve grown a lot because of it.

“The tattoo captures that: it’s a little piece of this chapter I’ve ‘checked out’ and get to keep with me.

“Plus, it reminds me to keep a sense of humour and to not take things too seriously.”

Viewers were left shocked by the bizarre tattoo.

Another person added: “Paid £100 for a tattoo to get a 13p discount?”
