A mum has revealed how her daughter’s unique name has sparked backlash online with people saying she’s “ruined” her life.

Emma Louise Hutton, 35, believes most children’s names are “boring”.

She wanted to get creative when giving birth to her daughter, aged one, and settled on Elae – pronounced L.A – Larose.

But it’s come with “hateful” comments from parents, and grandparents, who think she’s “ruined” the plucky tot’s life.

And say that Emma, a nail technician, is simply a “chav”.

“I’ve had people say that they feel sorry for my child, or that I’ve set her up for a lifetime of bullying,” the Sheffield born mum told What’s The Jam.

“They’ve called me a chav, or that I’ve tried to win a competition for the world’s weirdest name.

“I honestly couldn’t care less, but I find it so strange that grown adults feel the need to share their horrible negative thoughts on a child.

“I would never comment on a mum’s post telling her I think her baby’s name is stupid and horrible.”

Emma, who boasts 3.8m views and 52,000 likes on a TikTok video about her tot’s name, says she always wanted to go with something unique.

She said: “Being called Emma was very popular throughout school – and still is.

“I used to joke with my mum about how many other girls were in my year with the same name.

“I didn’t want that for my children and I always loved something unique.

“When a client of mine brought up her friend, who was called Elae, I fell in love with it.

“My husband was very supportive of the decision, as were my friends – but my parents didn’t like it very much.

“They love it now, of course.”

Emma says her Yorkshire accent might be the reason people think her daughter is called ‘Ellie’ or maybe it’s their “laziness”.

She’s stopped correcting those who mispronounce or misspell the name, though says it’s still very infuriating.

Emma added: “Whenever I do try to correct someone, they just give me a weird awkward smile.

“So it’s not worth it anymore.

“I don’t think she’s going to be bullied, as lots of kids nowadays have unique names.

“I think she’ll get frustrated with having to correct people all the time and not being able to find any toys with her name on.

(Jam Press/@emmaloublogger)

“But I don’t regret it at all and will never consider changing it.

“It’s the most beautiful name I’ve ever seen – and others should get more creative rather than sticking to boring ones.”
