A massive lobster weighing twice the average newborn baby has been found to the amazement of two brothers who were fishing.
Billy and Fin Craske, who work at their mum’s Surf’s Up Surf School, made the jaw-dropping find while spearfishing on 22 April along the north coast of Cornwall.
The duo had been swimming in search of lobsters when Billy spotted something unusual.

“We were looking for new ground when I noticed a smashed-up lobster claw,” he explained.
Thinking it may have been left behind by an octopus, he dived down to investigate – only to come face-to-face with an enormous set of claws, as reported by What’s The Jam.
“What looked back at me in the hole was the biggest pair of claws I’d ever seen,” he said.

Billy quickly called over his brother, who dived down and was equally stunned by the sheer size of the creature.
The pair carefully retrieved the lobster and placed it into a nearby rock pool to get a better look – where its true scale became clear.

Its massive “crusher” claw measured an incredible 11 inches, while its body length reached 172mm – far exceeding typical sizes.
The brothers believe the lobster could be decades old.
“It’s very special to meet something that’s probably way over double our age,” Billy said.

“To think of all the times he’s lived through – and survived predators and pots.”
Despite the temptation, the pair chose not to keep the impressive catch.
In the UK, lobsters must meet a minimum size to be taken, but there is no upper limit – meaning even large specimens can legally be kept.
However, Billy and Fin made the decision to release the animal back into the wild, recognising its importance to the local ecosystem.
“These huge males are vital to the population,” Billy explained.
Before setting it free, the brothers marked the lobster to help protect it from being caught in the future – a move typically used to safeguard breeding animals.
The moment was captured on video, showing the enormous crustacean in the shallow pool before it was returned to its underwater home with the video amassing more than 32,000 views.
The discovery has since amazed viewers, with many stunned by the size and apparent age of the creature.
For the brothers, it was a rare encounter they’re unlikely to forget.
“It’s not something you see every day,” Billy added.
“And it’s exactly why we love what we do.”
