A West Ham shirt has sold for £28,800 – the most ever for an FA Cup Final jersey.

The famous claret and blue top was worn by double goalscorer Alan Taylor.

The Hammers beat Fulham 2-0 in the showpiece at Wembley in 1975.

It also comes the sixth most expensive football shirt ever bought at auction anywhere in the world.

It pipped the £28,680 paid for Paul Gascoigne’s England jersey from the 1990 World Cup semi loss to West Germany.

It was sold by Stacey’s Auctioneers and Valuers, based in Rayleigh, Essex, on Monday (28 Apr).

“This is the highest so far in history to be paid for a FA Cup final shirt,” auctioneer Paul Stacey told What’s The Jam.

“It’s also the sixth-highest price paid for a football shirt of all time.

“Just beating Paul Gascoigne’s shirt from the Italia 1990 World Cup, which sold for £28,680.”

But he joked: “It is still a long way from the world record price for a football shirt, which is held by Diego Maradona’s shirt.

“Worn during the controversial ‘Hand of God’ 1986 World Cup, which sold for an incredible £7.1 million.”

The Taylor shirt went under the hammer to mark the 50th anniversary of the match.

It has ‘Wembley 1975’ embroidered and is in excellent condition.”

Also sold in the same auction was Taylor’s medal, which fetched £10,000.

Plus, the Mitre Max match ball from the same final went for £3,800.
