A stunned angler reeled in a monster sturgeon despite it being thought they were extinct in Britain.
Dave Howarth was fishing on the River Trent when he hooked the 48lb (21.7kg) fish.
The 43-year-old was targeting large barbel, but his next bite was something he will never forget.

He then faced a half-hour battle to land it in his net.
Dave then realised it was a sturgeon.
They were once common in UK rivers, but dirty rivers and other pressures virtually wiped them out.
The last recorded UK sturgeon was found in the River Tywi, in Carmarthenshire, south Wales, in 1993, as reported by What’s The Jam.
They were thought to have died out completely.
