An angler was stunned when he found a mammoth bone from the Ice Age on a day out fishing.
He stumbled upon the mystery object on the banks of a river.
The unnamed man informed local officials.
He found it at the Raba River in Książnice near Gdów, Poland.

Boffins from the Institute of Paleobiology, Polish Academy of Sciences looked at it.
They have now confirmed that the strange piece is a mammoth bone dating all the way back to the Ice Age.
The huge bone is as thick as a human leg.
A statement about the find by Gdów Municipality did not reveal what part of the body it likely came from.

Experts have taken the bone for further research, as reported on What’s The Jam.
During the Ice Age, mammoths roamed the entirety of what is now Poland.
They lived in Europe during the Pleistocene epoch, which spanned from about 2.6 million years ago to around 11,700 years ago.

Mammals are widely known for their long, curved tusks.
The largest species, the Imperial mammoth, could reach heights of 13 feet at the shoulder.
The largest specimens, according to estimates, weighed from six to eight tons.
