People should stop washing every day to help save the planet, according to an eco-influencer.
Claire Seiller said folk should instead have a quick “cat wash” with a flannel.
She calls herself a “utopian and imperfect environmentalist”, gives two reasons for quitting her daily shower.

The French influencer, who has 225,000 Instagram followers, said it’s to “save water.”
But also to “improve her skin.”
“Every year, as winter approaches, I feel the urge to shower less,” Claire of Toulouse, France, told What’s The Jam.
“This time of year is perfect for re-examining our relationship with showering and, more broadly, our excessive water consumption.
“Here are the two main reasons why I don’t shower every day: to save water, because we’re already short of it, and it’s only going to get worse.

“And because it’s bad for your skin and your health.
“The more you wash, the more you dry out your skin.
“We strip our skin by destroying a protective film made of oil, which prevents evaporation and causes dryness.

“Strip your skin less, and wash with something other than shower gel.”
Claire said she carries out a “cat wash” with a good flannel every day.
She said, “Your grandmother’s washcloth is your new best friend.”
She also avoids washing her hair regularly by brushing it every day and occasionally using a “homemade dry shampoo”.
Claire also uses a “cold-process soap with superfat” to clean her armpits and intimate areas.
She added, “Of course, there are exceptions specific to each person, such as their job, whether they do sports, menstruation, illness, and other things.”
The influencer said her children follow the same methods.
Claire’s philosophy is also rooted in science, with many dermatologists pointing out that daily showers are not necessary for most people.
They say it can strip the skin of its protective oils and beneficial bacteria, leading to dryness and a weakened skin barrier.
Dr Fabien Guibal, dermatologist at the Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris, said: “By limiting ourselves each day to a quick ‘cat wash’ and washing ourselves completely once every two days, we will be just as clean as if we showered daily.
“People with very dry skin would certainly benefit from showering less frequently.”
