Fans of Spam can now get instant hit of the canned meat from vending machines, but sadly there is a catch.

To use it they will have to travel 7,286 miles half way across the globe.

Because they are only in Hawaii which is the Spam hotspot of the world.

It is getting ready for its annual festival to celebrate the classic tinned British wartime delicacy.

Spam lovers can now grab a can from vending machines - but only in Hawaii, the Spam capital of the world, where the annual Spam Jam festival kicks off on April 19.

Revellers will even be able to test out the event’s stocked vending machines for the first time which are filled to the brim with Spam.

They have a range of different varieties on sale and customers can pay with contactless card payments.

Bizarrely, Hawaii is the world’s biggest fan of the lunch meat that became popular in WW2.

Donning the title of the “Spam capital of the world”, the US state sells a whopping seven million tins of the stuff every year.

And this will be its 21st annual celebration of the tinned delicacy.

The event starts on 19 April and runs until 4 May.

Stalls lined the street, offering a plethora of Spam themed items.

From Hawaii’s favourite Spam-themed dish Musubi, to Spam branded T-shirts, punters are able to fill their boots.

The state’s love for the tinned meat started during WW2 when the luncheon meat was served to GIs stationed in Hawaii in 1937.

By the end of the war, it had become a staple of the state’s local cuisine, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Hawaii Foodbank, Waikiki Community Center and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.

Waikiki Spam Jam stated: “Each place in the world seems to have its signature food festival.

“You may have heard about tomatoes, ribs, onions or pumpkins, but you have never seen anything like this, a Spam festival.

“Introduced in 1937 by Hormel Foods, more Spam is consumed per person in Hawaii than in any other state in the United States.

“Almost seven million cans of Spam are eaten every year in Hawaii.”
