Neil Armstrong’s old 18ct gold watch is set to sell for £1.5m.
The Omega Speedmaster was worn by the astronaut and presented to him during a gala dinner in 1969.
It was to mark his famous moon landing that year.

There were just 28 like it created by the Swiss watchmaker.

The first two were given to President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew, before the others were issued to NASA astronauts
The gold watch is engraved with Armstrong’s name, missions, a quote and the number 17, dated to when the astronaut took flight in space.

Half of the hammer price from this historic auction will be donated to charities selected by Neil’s son, Mark Armstrong.
Mark said that the watch meant a lot to his dad, and he liked to wear it on special occasions, as reported by What’s the Jam.

“This watch, which my father liked to wear on special occasions, symbolizes one of the most remarkable achievements in the history of mankind,” Mark said.
“A substantial portion of the proceeds from the sale of this watch will benefit charitable causes my father believed in, furthering the impact that he and many other Americans made to humanity more than half a century ago.”

The watch features an 18K gold case, and the hour markers are made of onyx, have two facets each, and are set in gold frames.

The hands are black with gold centers and give wonderful contrast to the solid gold dial.

The gold bracelet features hollow links and a small 14mm gold clasp with striping decoration.
RR Auction will hold the auction in Cambridge, near Boston, Massachusetts, US, and it takes place on 17 April.
Armstrong died in 2012, aged 82.
