A nature centre is offering heartbroken people the chance to name a cockroach after their ex – and then have it eaten by a turtle.

For as little as 81p, any bitterness from a break-up will become a thing of the past.

So far, 345 names have been added to the feeding pot – raising £2,780 for the centre.

And if you’re concerned about the cockroaches, it might make you feel better to know that the money raised will go toward a worthy cause.

The centre says it will pay for a new tank for Francis, their rescue turtle.

The bizarre yet therapeutic task is being offered at Louisville Nature Center in Kentucky, US.

All you need to do is fill in a form, including your contact details and chosen name for the roach, and pay a small – or large – donation.

Then, a video will be made and sent to you of Francis eating the roach in question.

And it’s not just for heartbroken individuals, either.

The centre has also had requests for insects to be named after politicians, public figures and even companies.

“I had the idea and then it turned out a few zoos had done it, so we thought we’d give it a try,” Rebecca Minnick, executive director, told What’s The Jam.

“We raise dubia roaches to feed the turtles [as] they’re easy to raise and an excellent source of protein.

“I am surprised and pleased [about the response].

“We love raising awareness of what we do while having a little fun.

“And Franics will love his new tank.”
