A Mercedes built in honour of Sir Stirling Moss is selling for £2.8m.

But there are two vital things missing from the 219mph supercar.

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss doesn’t have a roof.

But the flash silver motor also doesn’t have a windscreen.

It was one of only 75 models made in the name of the legendary late F1 driver.

The Brit race ace – who died six years ago aged 90 – is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers to never win the world title.

The two-seater car for sale boasts a 641 bhp, 5.4-litre supercharged AMG V-8 engine.

The sleek silver, two-seater can do 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds.

It is being sold by RM Sotheby’s at an auction in the French capital Paris on 28 January.

It has a guide price of up to £2.8m, as reported on Whats The Jam.

A spokesperson said: “Production of the Stirling Moss variant was limited to 75 units that were only available to existing owners who had bought an SLR McLaren.

“Which was chiefly designed by the great Gordon Murray.

“Losing the windscreen and roof, while gaining restyled carbon fibre body panels, helped shed some 200 kilograms.

“Yet the engine bay still housed a supercharged 5.4-litre V-8 that fired 641 horsepower to the rear wheels.”

It only has 1,202 miles on the clock.

A similar model sold for £2.7m in another Sotheby’s auction in February 2024.
