A bungling tourist wedged their car between two old buildings in a historic city centre.

The couple was reportedly following the vehicle’s sat nav instructions and ended up trying to pass through a cobbled alleyway.

The tourists then became stuck between two buildings.

A group of locals left their homes to provide assistance to the stranded holidaymakers.

They were seen trying to push the Toyota Yaris Cross out of the small space from the back.

But it seemed to scrape along the walls and become further trapped in the narrow alley, built centuries ago for the passage of carts.

The GPS-inspired nightmare took place in the town of Bosa on the Italian island of Sardinia.

According to reports, the locals eventually managed to free the trapped vehicle by lifting up the rear and pushing forward.

One local said: “We saw them in trouble and went out to push the car.

“It’s not the first time, it happens every year.

“But every time it makes us smile a little.”

Aside from severe damage to the vehicle’s bodywork, the two tourists were said to be very scared by the accident, as reported by What’s The Jam.

It happened last Monday (21 Apr).

One local said: “It’s not always a good idea to follow Google Maps’ instructions.”

Another added: “The particular plaster on that house is like a cheese grater.”

Luciana remarked: “I saw something similar to this as well. They got stuck in the alley under my window at 1am.

“I heard an hour of swearing.”

It wasn’t the first time a motorist had been left stranded in a strange place in an Italian town while following GPS instructions.

Similar mishaps have been reported in Taormina in Sicily and Caiazzo in Caserta.

In December last year, a Ferrari driver ended up on a tram track in Milan.
