As he panned across the city, he captured the lightning bolt streaking vertically from the night sky and zapping the top of the skyscraper.
The electrical discharge was accompanied by a loud clap of thunder.
The lightning strike was filmed in the coastal city of Balneário Camboriú located south of São Paulo, Brazil on Sunday (9 Mar).
It hit the top of the Infinity Coast apartment block.
The building stands at a height of 770ft and has over 60 floors.
Until 2022, it was the tallest building in Brazil.
Luckily for residents, the skyscraper has an Atmospheric Discharge Protection System (SPDA) and did not suffer any damage.
But other locals weren’t so lucky during the storm.
Sunday’s harsh weather brought flooding and road closures to the city, and many residents were left without electricity until the following morning, as reported by What’s The Jam.
One local said: “I was sleeping when this happened, it woke me up as it was very close to my home.”
Another added: “Lord have mercy on us down here.”
Letizia remarked: “Ughh how scary.”
