A bright meteor was filmed blazing through the sky in a dramatic clip.
The footage showed the incandescent object streaking across the night sky before appearing to break apart as it entered the Earth’s atmosphere.
The fireball lit up the skies over western Libya on Sunday night (4 October), with residents in Tripoli and surrounding areas seeing the bright object.

A loud sound resembling thunder was also clearly heard by people in the area, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The Libyan Centre for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (LCRSSS) confirmed the object was a meteor.
The centre said a small celestial body, such as a meteoroid or part of a comet, can enter the Earth’s atmosphere at very high speed.
Friction with the air causes it to heat up and burn, producing a bright light and illuminated trail.
It added that similar sightings can sometimes be caused by space debris, including fragments of satellites or old rockets, burning up as they re-enter the atmosphere.
