Think you’ve got a good nose? A Finnish archipelago wants to hear from you.
Turku Archipelago, on Finland’s south-west coast, has declared itself the best-smelling destination on Earth.
Now it’s hiring its first-ever official “Nose” to put the claim to the test.

The successful applicant will be tasked with sniffing out the region’s finest scents, from pine forests after rain and sun-warmed coastal rocks to sauna smoke and freshly baked dark bread.
And no experience is required.
French actor Lambert Wilson, known for The Matrix films, has been drafted in to front the search.
He said: “One can rediscover the simple pleasures of breathing and smelling there. And we take that for granted so often.”
The claim isn’t just hot air, either.

According to a recent report by Swiss organisation IQAir, Finland has the third-best air quality in Europe.
The archipelago is one of the largest and most fragmented in the world, made up of roughly 40,000 islands and skerries.
Much of it has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1994.

The chosen Nose will be invited to visit in 2027, with their findings compiled into the archipelago’s own scent guide, as reported by What’s The Jam.

To apply, hopefuls must post a short video on Instagram or TikTok, pick an object, smell it and give their verdict – before submitting a form online.
Their sniffing technique will form part of the evaluation/
“Anyone who believes they have a good sense of smell can apply,” added Kristiina Kukkohovi, CEO of Visit Turku Archipelago.
“No professional experience with scent is required.
“The whole point of the recruit is to find someone who can explore the archipelago using nothing but their nose.”
