A massive swarm of locusts has been spotted sweeping across a field in Russia, leaving locals fearing the insects were heading towards nearby towns.
Footage shows countless locusts filling the sky over a field in the Kizlyar district of Dagestan on Sunday, August 2nd.
A local filming the swarm can be heard saying: “Where are they heading? What on earth is this? Thank goodness they’re not heading towards the town!

“They are going to eat us alive!”
The Asian locust is considered one of the world’s most destructive agricultural pests, as told by Whats The Jam.
Swarms can contain hundreds of millions of insects and are capable of travelling huge distances while stripping vegetation in their path.
On Tuesday (5 Aug), Dagestan’s Agriculture and Food Ministry said active pest control measures were underway and several large swarms had already been dealt with.
The ministry said: “The situation is complicated by the fact that migratory locust swarms travel from nature conservation areas and reserves, where chemical treatment is strictly prohibited by law.

“However, as soon as the pests move into areas where treatment is permitted, all available equipment is deployed.”
