Scared residents thought a tornado was on its way after a swirling column of wind was spotted in Jersey.
Nicole Hodge filmed the rare weather phenomenon near her home.
“It looked like two funnels of clouds coming down, and you can see the vortex,” she said.

“It was a windy and cloudy, dull day.
“The tides were quite strong and rough.”
It was spotted at St. Brelade, La Corbière, on the Channel Island last Thursday (4 Dec) at 4pm.
She also told What’s the Jam: “I was shocked and kind of scared as I wondered what would happen if it did touch ground and turn into a tornado.
“The funnels stayed there for around an hour.”
Nicole captured it in a 16-second clip.
It wasn’t a tornado – or a twister – though, as it didn’t touch the ground.
One local said: “Absolutely incredible footage for this part of the world.
“You can see the vortices quite clearly in the condensation funnel, and it does appear it is trying to lower from the shelf cloud.
“A textbook rear-flank downdraft.”
Someone else added: “Incredible footage.”
A third person added: “That was scary.”
