A stunned shopper has claimed her bargain boots from TK Maxx turned out to be from Primark – after the label rubbed off to reveal the high street logo underneath.

Gem Pesce snapped up the brown heeled boots for £19.99 back in August, thinking she’d bagged a proper steal.

The tag said they were from a brand called Boonchy and boasted a “retail price” of £45.

But when the 39-year-old wore them for the first time, she says the sticker started to peel – and what she found underneath left her gobsmacked.

“They were advertised as Boonchy,” Gem, from Doncaster, South Yorks, told What’s the Jam.

“The first time I wore them, I was walking to work and felt something sticky on my foot.

“When I got there, I went to the toilet and took off the boot and half of a sticker from the sole was stuck to my tights.

“I looked closer and could see gold writing which looked like Primark.

“So I peeled off a bit more and it was the Primark logo underneath the original label, which had been stuck over the top.

“I was laughing at first because I thought someone must have taken the boots back as a scam and popped a label over them for a refund.

“Then I was annoyed that they weren’t accurately labelled for what they were. I love the boots and would have bought them from Primark.”

Gem shared her discovery online, and the post went viral, clocking up more than 6,000 likes.

She says TK Maxx has since been in touch, but she’s still waiting on a proper response.

Gem added: “My issue is that TK Maxx advertise designer brands at a lower cost and have sold me some Primark boots with another brand’s label.

“These boots are still sold online, and others have reached out to me and checked their boots, and they are the same, so it’s not a one-time mistake.”

Other shoppers were equally shocked.

One person fumed: “Oh my god, this is so bad.”

Another said: “What the f*ck, that’s wild.”

Someone else added: “Sorry, I’d be rather peed off.

“Primark or not, you pay an uplift for most TK Maxx stock.

“Also, it’s the lies of putting another label on it.”

A fourth person reckoned: “Or someone’s done a cheeky return.

“Used to get this a lot at Next with branded items labels being put on low-value items so that they could return them for the high-end item price.

“Always targeted young staff.”

TK Maxx has been approached for comment.
