Sainsbury’s has launched an AI-powered tool which turns photos, spoken requests and meal ideas into digital shopping lists.
The new SmartLists feature matches each item with real products sold by Sainsbury’s, including those carrying discounted Nectar Prices.
Online shoppers can transfer the suggestions straight into their virtual trolley rather than searching for every product individually.

Those visiting a supermarket can instead use a built-in Product Finder to track down the items inside their local store, as reported by What’s The Jam?
Customers could, for example, write “ingredients for spaghetti bolognese” or “pasta bake” and receive a suggested list of everything they may need.
Alternatively, they can photograph a list they have already scribbled down or speak their requests into the app.

Shoppers will still be able to review the recommendations, select their preferred products and remove anything they do not want before buying.
Sainsbury’s said the tool had been designed to save people time and help them keep an eye on their budget.

SmartLists has arrived as part of a major redesign of the supermarket’s mobile app.
Online grocery orders, SmartShop, Chop Chop, SmartLists and Nectar services have been brought together in one place for the first time.
That means customers should no longer need to switch between different Sainsbury’s apps when planning an order, scanning shopping or checking their Nectar account.

Ben Edge, director of product at Sainsbury’s, said: “We know our customers are busy and want shopping to feel simple, joyful and easy to fit around their lives.
“SmartLists is designed to take the effort out of creating and buying a shopping list, whether customers are typing, speaking or taking a picture of what they need.
“Alongside this, by bringing more of our services together in one app, we’re making it easier for customers to plan their shop, build their basket and find products in store, however and whenever they choose to shop with us.”
The SmartLists feature is available through the upgraded Sainsbury’s app.
