A postie was left red-faced after their Royal Mail van broke down then the pick-up truck got pulled over by cops.

The post van was packed with parcels set to be delivered.

It was put on the back of the recovery flatbed when it failed to start.

But it was too heavy to be driven and the breakdown driver got a ticking off.

The weight of the two vehicles combined – plus on the letters and parcels in the back – put it over the weight limit.

The recovery truck driver was issued a prohibition notice,

The embarrassing situation happened near Swindon, Wilts.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “The 9am special deliveries put this combination overloaded.

“Sign, sealed, delivered and prohibited.

“The driver signed for the ticket as proof of delivery.”

They added: “It’s the recovery truck that is overloaded.

“The post van wasn’t the offender here.”

Local Joe Powell fumed: “Some poor kid’s birthday cards are in the back.”

Another – named Andy – quipped: “Put a note through their door and tell them where they can pick it up from.

“Make sure you’re only open at silly o’clock or at a time when they won’t be able to take time away from work.”

Rob Jones said: “You must stamp this out.”

One local joked: “All those posted speeding fines will be delayed.”
