A box of rare Pokemon cards is tipped to sell for £12,000.

The rare collection is 25 years old.

The sealed box contains 60 packets of cards.

The Pokemon Fossil First edition sealed booster box is going under the hammer with Ewbank’s auctioneers in Woking, Surrey.

It has a guide price of between £10,000 and £12,000.

The auction finishes next Wednesday (27 Mar).

Bids of up to £5,000 had already come in.

It is being sold by collector, Stephen Wilks.

The listing reads: “Pokemon TCG. Pokemon Fossil first edition sealed booster box.

Rare 25-year-old sealed box of Pokémon cards, featuring popular characters like Dragonite and Gengar, set to fetch up to £12,000 at auction.

“Fossil is the name given to the third main expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

“It is based on Pokémon Red and Blue, featuring Generation Pokémon and Fossil Pokémon.

“The English expansion was released on October 10, 1999 and includes popular Pokemon such as Dragonite, Gengar and the Legendary Birds.”

It adds: “This item is from the collection of the former managing director of Wizards of the Coast Stephen Wilks.

“An image of his previous business card and a Wizards of the Coast brochure is included for provenance but please be aware only the brochure is included in the sale.”

In the same auction, a set of French Neo Destiny Pokemon cards are set to sell for £4,500.

A Fossil Holo Sheet is tipped to be bought for £3,000.

Last October, Ewbank’s auctioneers sold a Neo Discovery Set box of Pokemon for £10,400.

Pokémon trading cards became popular amongst 90s school kids following the success of the video game series.

More than 52.9 billion cards have been sold worldwide.

Packs of Pokemon cards were typically sold for around £1 at the time.
