An old plastic peas bag – with the price in shillings – which is at least 53 years old has been found on a beach
A group of volunteer cleaners at the beauty spot were stunned to find it.
The bag for Tempo Peas was found at Greenaleigh Sand Beach, near Minehead, Somerset.

It has a price tag of 2/8 shillings – a price system not used since 1971.
A spokesman for the group Plastic Free Exmoor said “A piece of plastic found on a clean beach.
“This packaging from a pack of Tempo garden peas dates from pre-decimalisation days.
“The UK went decimal in February 1971 making this packaging over 50 years old.”
A Marine Conservation Society spokesman said: “That really does highlight just how long it takes for plastic to break down – or not in this case.”

The group also found fishing lines, a portable toilet and carpet underlay as part of their clean-up of a beach, as reported on What’s The Jam.
The 18-strong group also discovered artificial grass, Wellington boots, a traffic cone and a bed headboard.
