A marooned walker had to be rescued after getting hypothermia…in July.

They were part of a group taking part in the 15 Peaks Challenge.

But due to Britain’s soggy summer, they succumbed to the cold.

It happened on Carneddau, Snowdonia on Wednesday (24 Jul) and the group called for help.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation then raced to the rescue with food and warm drinks and clothing before leading the hikers to a place where to warm up.

A spokesman said: “A group set off at 3am on Sunday to walk the 15 Peaks and made good progress until they were caught by deteriorating weather on the Carneddau.

“One of the group started to show signs of hypothermia so the group sheltered in the summit shelter of Carnedd Llewelyn and planned an escape down to Dulyn Bothy.”

“After struggling to find the path down and knowing they were at risk of straying onto the cliffs above the llyn they sensibly stopped in the shelter and called for help.

“After confirming their Location with Sarloc Rescue / Phonefind, five team members walked up and provided the group with food, warm drinks, warm clothing and head torches.

“They then walked them down to the team vehicles at Ffynnon Llygwy and back to Bryn Poeth for a warm up.”

The mountain rescuers urged people to check the weather before setting out and if they are properly equipped for all possible conditions.

The spokesman added: “Especially important for long challenges, checking the weather will help you prepare properly for a trip in the mountains.”

Locals couldn’t believe the summer weather either, as reported on What’s The Jam.

David Humphreys said: “We went fishing the other day near the Crimea Pass.

“We clearly went through a time portal somewhere along the way as we left in July, arrived in April and arrived back home in July.”

Jason Davies added: “Good call sheltering on Carnedd Llewelyn, they should have rang from there.

“Heading to dulyn from there you don’t have any paths so it’s easy to get lost but if head for pen Yr helig du there’s a path just off the summit and you can get back to the A5.

“Glad everyone is safe.”
