Netflix customers could save a whopping £84 a year on ad-free streaming using a little-known extra-member trick.
The money-saving method allows someone to access the streaming service without adverts for £5.99 a month instead of paying £12.99 for their own Standard subscription.
It uses Netflix’s official extra-member feature, meaning users receive their own account and password rather than sharing another person’s login details.

The trick was shared by money-saving expert Jordon Cox, better known online as Coupon Kid UK.
To use it, customers must find a friend or relative with an eligible Netflix subscription who is willing to purchase an extra-member slot through their account settings, as reported by What’s The Jam.
The account holder then pays £5.99 a month for the additional ad-free membership and sends an email invitation to the person they want to add.
Once the recipient accepts the invitation, they can create a separate Netflix account with their own login details.
The extra member does not need to live in the same household as the original subscriber, although both people must be based in the same country.

As Netflix bills the main account holder for the extra slot, the additional member can transfer them the £5.99 each month.
Alternatively, the pair could divide the combined subscription cost between them.
A Standard ad-free subscription costs £12.99 a month, while the additional membership costs £5.99.

That represents a monthly saving of £7 – or £84 over the course of a year – for the extra member.
Netflix also offers its cheapest standalone subscription for £5.99 a month, but that plan includes adverts.
Jordon said the extra-member option featured in his tip was ad-free, meaning it offers a cheaper alternative for people who do not want commercial breaks.
The discovery attracted attention from social media users, with one person writing: “I will be doing this immediately.”
Another person said: “Omg yes.”
Netflix says its accounts are intended for people living together in one household, with its extra-member feature providing an official way to add someone who lives elsewhere.
