A dad-of-three says Jeremy Clarkson saved his life and now he is running to Diddly Squat Farm to thank him.

Andrew Hood beat cancer after watching an episode of his Grand Tour show four years ago.

In it, Clarkson, 64, and fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond discussed needing to wee during the night – a prostate issue that affects many men.

And it led Andy to being diagnosed with testicular cancer himself.

The 52-year-old from Barnstaple, Devon, who has three sons, said: “Not long after watching the episode I’d come back from a run and was in the shower and decided to check myself.

“I noticed something wrong and within 10 days I’d received a cancer diagnosis, had an operation and was soon to be scheduled for chemotherapy.”

“That kickstarted a chain of events ending in an operation to remove one of my testicles and chemotherapy,” Andrew told What’s The Jam.

“My cancer had spread, and I was told that if I had not checked when I did then the cancer would have undoubtedly spread more and it would have been a whole lot more serious.

“I would have been very, very unwell indeed.

“My cancer was testicular cancer.

“I had an orchiectomy and chemotherapy.

“My message to all is check your testicles – if I hadn’t it would have been much, much more serious.

“With three boys the message around testicular cancer becomes even more important.

“I will never be able to thank Clarkson, Hammond and May enough for saving my life that day as I know without watching that programme, I would not have checked myself.”

Andrew will be running 34 miles from Oxford train station to Diddly Squat Farm Shop, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on Saturday, April 12 to thank the man himself.

The run will go via Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog, in Asthall.

“They know I am coming,” married training manager Andrew added.

“I have a letter for Jeremy to say thank you.”

Andy’s run comes just as Clarkson, May and Hammond reunite in a new Amazon Prime offering.

The trio will be together for The Not Very Grand Tour on Amazon next month.
