IKEA has launched a major new service for homeowners and renters across the UK.

The Swedish furniture retailer has expanded into home insurance for the first time through a partnership with digital provider Urban Jungle.

Customers can now choose between contents insurance, buildings insurance or a combined policy through the IKEA website.

The service is available nationwide and includes monthly rolling plans, online policy management and optional additional protection, as reported by What’s The Jam.

It marks IKEA’s first collaboration with an insurance provider in the UK and forms part of its growing range of services designed to support customers beyond furnishing their homes.

Contents insurance is available from £60 a year, although the amount customers pay will depend on their circumstances and chosen level of cover.

Policies can protect up to £120,000 of belongings and are being offered to renters, people living in flat shares and students as well as homeowners.

Buildings insurance provides up to £1 million of cover as standard.

Customers who own their properties can also purchase a combined buildings and contents policy.

Optional extras include accidental damage, home emergencies, cover for belongings taken outside the home and legal expenses.

The companies said policies can be purchased online within minutes and altered without an administration fee through the website at any time.

Monthly rolling plans are also available for customers who do not want to commit to paying annually.

Shoppers can obtain a quote and review the available policies at the IKEA website.

Customers should check the policy excesses, exclusions, cover limits, optional extras and full price before purchasing, as the advertised £60 starting price will not apply to everyone.

Jimmy Williams, chief executive and co-founder of Urban Jungle, said: “We are delighted to partner with IKEA and this partnership marks a significant milestone in Urban Jungle’s mission.

“We believe in fair insurance for everyone, and by joining forces with IKEA, we can bring our technology-driven, AI-powered accessible home insurance to an even wider audience.

“We are proud to be the first insurance provider to collaborate with IKEA in the UK, offering insurance that truly puts the customer first.”

Callum Leavy, country customer experience manager at IKEA UK, said the partnership would allow the retailer to support customers beyond selling furniture and homeware.

He said: “IKEA’s mission is to create a better everyday life for the many people, and that extends to feeling secure and protected in your home.

“By partnering with Urban Jungle, we are bringing a simple, functional and affordable home insurance product to our customers, ensuring they have peace of mind that their homes and belongings are protected.

“As part of our wider Life at Home services offer, this partnership helps us support customers beyond home furnishing, making everyday life at home a little easier.”

The insurance joins IKEA’s existing Life at Home services, which include help with moving and setting up a home and the IKEA Family Credit Card.
