Locals and tourists were left stunned when a huge swarm of bees descended on a parked bike in Manchester.

The bike had been left in the city centre on a bustling street, when a “cloud” of the insects suddenly enveloped it.

The footage was taken on Market Street by Lecia, who almost walked straight into the bike.

“I was half asleep and hadn’t even had my morning coffee yet,” the 30-year-old content creator told What’s The Jam.

“I was literally this [very] close to walking straight into a cloud of bees.”

Startled and confused, Lecia dashed into the nearby Tim Horton’s as the insects continued to gather.

She said: “It was like a proper swarm – hundreds of bees, and right in the middle of the high street.”

It turned out the bees were swarming around a bag attached to a parked bicycle.

Witnesses believe food inside the bag, and possibly even a queen bee, was what attracted the swarm.

Lecia added: “The whole thing was wild.

“They were forming a hive right there in public.”

It took several hours for professionals in full protective gear to arrive and carefully remove the bike – and the bees with it.

Lecia said: “No one ever figured out whose bike it was.

“It looked completely abandoned.

“For a second I thought it was some kind of PR stunt – especially with the bee being Manchester’s emblem.

“Honestly so wild.

“It’s the kind of thing you don’t expect to see on a random weekday morning – but I guess that’s Manchester for you.”

Lecia shared clips of the incident that happened earlier this month (2 August) on Instagram account, where it has been viewed over 30,000 times.

One person commented: “It’s fine, They can have it, I’ll walk home.”

“God, I want to be sick,” another person wrote.

“Should stop the bike thieves,” joked somebody else.
