A 24-carat gold E-Type Jaguar covered in 100,000 Swarovski crystals has sold for a bargain £3,000…but there’s a major catch.

The unique sparkly car was tipped to sell for up to £24,000.

It was built by hand and it took experts over 300 hours to stick the crystals on alone.

But the downside is it can’t do 153mph like the real classic motor.

That is because it’s actually a half-size kids’ toy.

It doesn’t even have an engine or motor and is pedal-powered.

That is because the car is actually a half-size version and a kid’s toy.

It was sold by RM Sotheby’s at auction.

But it sold for eight times less than the guide price.

It was made by Halfscale Cars and used to be for sale at Harrods for £15,000.

But they are not sold at the posh West London department store anymore.

As well as the handset, Swarovski, Xirius-cut crystals, and 24-carat gold plated bodywork, it boasts a plush interior.

It has a bench-style leather seat and a diamond-stitched upholstery and a gold steering wheel.

A Sotheby’s spokesperson said: “Launched by Halfscale Cars in 2019, this children’s version of the iconic Jaguar E-Type is arguably one of the ultimate toys for young classic car enthusiasts.

“In an exclusive partnership with the famous British department store Harrods, Halfscale built a version of the E-Type that featured

bodywork adorned with over 100,000 Swarovski Xirius-cut crystals.

“Built by hand in the United Kingdom, production times allegedly exceeded 300 hours with each crystal applied by hand to the mini E-Type.

“This pedal-powered children’s car brightwork is finished in lavish 24-carat gold plating.

“Inside, the colour theme continues with a gold-plated steering wheel, further complemented by gold-coloured diamond-stitched leather.

“No longer sold by Harrods, this Crystal E-Type presents a unique opportunity to acquire a rare British-built children’s car.”

The auction took place in Dubai last Saturday (9 Mar).

The guide price is between £16,000 and £24,000.

Last September, the auction house sold a silver version for £15,000 but that was battery-powered.
