A woman with a lifelong love of donkeys had one of the gentle animals lead her on her final journey.
Val Mortimer adored the creatures and supported charities that cared for them.
When the 78-year-old died, she had one last request – that a donkey would head her funeral cortege.

Her wish came true in a touching and unique send-off last Friday (15 Aug) in Potterne, near Devizes, Wilts,
“She always loved donkeys and it was fitting that her procession was led by one,” Val’s granddaughter Louise Watson told What’s The Jam.

“It was very moving.”
Val died in June.
Ashley McDonald, of AP McDonald Funeral Services, added: “We had the privilege of arranging the truly unique farewell for a much-loved lady.

“Her final journey was led by a gentle companion, making the day as personal and meaningful as her life.
“The donkey not only walked ahead of the cortege but also accompanied Val into the church, making it a truly personal and fitting tribute.
“A small toy donkey was also placed on her coffin throughout the service.”
