A diver has been left stunned after finding a ‘Titanic plate’ on a shipwreck.

Dominic Robinson recently went diving in the English Channel to explore the SS Afric – a White Star Line steamship – alongside another diver.

The 53-year-old ventured 80 metres below the surface in the hopes of finding something special.

Once he arrived at the wreck, he began searching for objects which would have sunk along with the ship when it was torpedoed in 1917.

Just as he was about to lose hope that there was treasure to be found, Dominic came across a plate with the red White Star Line logo printed in the middle.

He claims that a similar plate would have been used on the Titanic.

In the video, Dominic said: “The danger is real.

“I’m in a small, tight space carrying a lot of bulky diving equipment.

“The wreck is heavily silted and even the smallest disturbance will destroy the visibility making it very difficult for me to find the exit – I have to be very careful.

“Just as I’m losing hope, I find something in the mud.

“It’s a plate – exactly what I’m looking for.

“What a great result.”

After recovering the plate, Dominic looked into the item’s potential value.

He was able to track down similar plates that he claims have sold for between £500 and £1,000 on eBay, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Dominic added: “The Titanic was owned by the White Star Line, which also operated many other ships including the SS Afric, which was torpedoed in 1917.

“Lying in 80 metres of water, it is an awesome technical dive.

“White Star Line vessels, including both the Titanic and Afric, used identical crockery branded with their company logo.”
