Colin McRae’s old rally Ford Focus is on sale for £420,000.
The 2000 Mk1 has a turbocharged 2.0-litre, inline-4 cylinder 16V engine.
It can go fairly modest 144mph.

But the rally car is described as being a genuine piece of World Rally Championship history.

Known to rally fans by its registration V6 FMC it was first driven by double World Champion Carlos Sainz and co-driver Luis Moya in 2000.
It achieved third place on the 2000 Rallye Catalunya, second on the Acropolis, and outright victory on the Rally of Cyprus.
The following season in 2001 it became part of one of McRae’s most celebrated drives.

He and co-driver Nicky Grist battled through the snowbanks of Rally Sweden setting fastest stage times before a damaged gearbox restricted them to ninth overall.

It went on to compete further in the hands of Raimund Baumschlager, Stephen Finlay, and later Paulo Andreucci, before being purchased in 2002 by Norwegian driver Valter Jensen.
He drove the car in rallies until 2004 retaining it in his possession for nearly 25 years, as reported by Whats The Jam.

Its listing says: “It has now returned to the UK with an exceptional history file, including its original M-Sport invoice, Gold Logbook, export papers, and correspondence.

“A recent engine rebuild with fewer than 100km, a full service by Neil Buckley of Dom Buckley Motorsport, and additional items such as lamp pods and spare wheels further enhance its appeal.”
Auctioneer Rob Hubbard added: “This car is the embodiment of modern rallying’s golden age.

“With victories and heroic drives from two of the sport’s greatest names, it represents a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
“We are proud to present such an important piece of motorsport heritage at the NEC Classic Motor Show.”
It is being auctioned by Iconic Auctioneers on 8 November at at the NEC, Birmingham.
