A chippy has left locals queasy by its decision to batter and deep-fry a pumpkin.
With the spooky season well underway, pumpkins are the flavour of the moment – but one takeaway may have taken things too far.
The Silver Fish in Wellington, Telford, has decided to chuck a freshly-carved pumpkin into boiling oil.

A video has gone viral on TikTok with over 286,000 views and 2,698 likes.
“Battered pumpkin, anyone?,” the caption reads.
The footage shows one of the workers carving a spooky face on the vegetable before dipping it in batter and submerging into the fryer.
One of the two people who tried the “delicacy” added a hefty helping of salt before eating.
And it didn’t seem to go down too well.

“If anyone would like to bring in their own pumpkin we would batter it for them,” a spokesperson for the Silver Fish told What’s The Jam.

“That wouldn’t be a problem.
“It’s not currently on the menu as we don’t think many people would like to try it.”

Sarah Xenaphon said: “Is that even edible.”

Kyshaun Mckinley added: “Nah, I’m alright.”
Another person wrote: “I’m ok, but thanks for asking.”
One poster asked: “Who’s gonna eat that.”

Another follower commented: “Why would you do that for, you should be arrested for that idea.”
