A woman has sparked a quarrel online after revealing she refused to pay for a staff member’s Christmas lunch after the employee ordered two dinners.

TikTokker Lisa shared the story with her followers, with the post racking up 276,000 views and sparking fierce debate in the comments.

The 38-year-old administrative assistant, from Torbay, often posts tales sent in by her fans.

This time, it was a boss wondering if she was in the wrong after the Christmas party mishap.

The woman claims that she offered to buy her team lunch for Christmas as a thank you for their hard work, but while ordering the food, she noted one staff member had requested two lots of the same meal.

The employer said, “I thought it was odd, but I wasn’t going to buy two meals for one person for their lunch.

“So I just ordered her one – mainly because I was paying and it was just meant to be a bit of a treat.

“I got back and handed out the food, but instead of saying thank you, she obviously noticed I’d only got her one bowl.

“She got upset and asked why.

“I just explained it was a team lunch and one meal per person.

“Then she said in front of everyone, What was the point in getting it if it isn’t what I asked for?”

“I said if she wanted two meals, then she could have offered to pay the difference.

“She accused me of embarrassing her, called me cheap and then didn’t speak to me for the rest of the day.

“Later on, I found out that she had been complaining that I was controlling food portions and singling her out because she eats more.

“Am I wrong for only ordering the one meal?”

Lisa posed the question to her followers, and the video went viral with over 2,800 likes and hundreds of comments.

One viewer, Bex, commented: “A new team member making an absolute fanny of themselves in front of everyone by expecting to get two free meals is not going to bode well.”

Another person wrote: “I bet she wanted to save the second for dinner and make you pay for it.”

Mayra said, “I would be happy for a free meal, and if that’s not enough, I would have snacks in my bag. Do not feel entitled to a nice gesture of appreciation. That girl embarrassed herself.”

Another user added: “She’s the type of person that would order the £175 steak at a restaurant if she wasn’t paying for it, rude.”

Margaret said, “Not wrong. Only one meal per person. She could have offered to pay the difference. She’s the one who made it a big deal and announced it to everyone.”

Patricia added, “If someone offers to buy lunch, you need to be respectful. And order readable amounts.”

Whereas some stood by the employee.

Arezo said: “Well, if you’re letting them pick, then you buy what they write down, or you decide for them and don’t let them write it down…. so kind of wrong of you.”

Abby added: “You should have messaged her to ask why she requested two, so she could justify it – maybe bowls are skimpy/ small.”

Janice said: “You offered lunch, so get ppl what they want.”

Stryder added: “She wanted to take a meal home for later.”

While it sparked a debate in the comments, Lisa was firmly on the side of the boss.

“I am always shocked by the level of entitlement shown by some people when these videos come through,” she told What’s The Jam.

“I’m even more shocked when the comments accuse the woman of being a cheap skate and telling her she should have just got the two meals, as that’s what was asked for.

“I was 100% on the woman’s side for this story and wouldn’t dream of requesting two meals when I knew someone else was paying.

“If I really wanted extras, I would have offered to pay myself.

“Some people commented that when the opposition saw the times two next to the item, she should have asked the employee why she wanted two and given her the chance to pay.

“But the woman stated she was at the restaurant already ordering, so that wasn’t an option.

“In most cases, this is the commentators with the opposition, and they believed it was rude of the employee to ask for two meals.

“It makes you think twice about doing a nice thing for people when you end up with this backlash.

“It does make you understand why people just don’t bother at times.”
