Nine of Andrew Sachs’ old Fawlty Towers scripts fetched nearly £9,000 at auction.

The late actor played hapless waiter Manuel in the cult 70s sitcom.

He died in 2016, aged 86.

His family put the scripts from the BBC show, which ran from 1975 to 1979, up for sale.

It starred John Cleese as Basil Fawlty and Prunella Scales, who died two weeks ago, as his wife, Sybil.

The original scripts, some with biro annotations, were for episodes like Basil the Rat, The Kipper and the Corpse, Communication Problems, Gourmet Night, The Psychiatrist and Waldorf Salad.

They went under the hammer at Ewbank’s, in Woking, Surrey, last Friday (14 Nov), as reported by What’s The Jam.

In total, the scripts sold for £8,905.

Sachs’s daughter, Kate, said: “I have been holding onto them for years.

“It’s just a huge emotional and sentimental attachment.

“So it is really hard to let them go.”

Yet, she added: “But I need to be realistic and find homes for these things where they will be treasured rather than let them gather dust.”
