A woman has gone viral with over 10 million views on TikTok after unveiling her quirky Christmas tree – made out of over 300 books.

Bookworm Kate Fulton put her collection of hundreds of novels to good use by creating a quirky festive display, spending hours collecting and arranging them.

The 36-year-old calls it the ‘Book Tree’, and it features hardcover books, all of which she has read.

The feature goes from floor to ceiling, with 364 books used in total.

“I was inspired by my love of books and Christmas,” Kate, a sales representative from Media, Pennsylvania, US, told What’s The Jam.

“I love the finished look – it brings me so much joy.

“A friend started a challenge to make a small book tree six years ago and I decided to go big or go home.

“It was such a hit and I loved it so much that it became an annual tradition.

“This is my sixth year creating the book tree and I think they get better each year.”

Katie spent two hours building the tree, but says the bulk of the time comes beforehand during the prep.

She said: “The more time consuming part is organising the books before I start building.

“I organise by width so that each layer has books the same width.

“I usually throw on an audiobook or TV show and spend about two-three hours sorting them a few days before I actually build the tree.

“I have become more organised as the years go on and now I have photos of each stack so next year I can just grab the titles and know they are the same width.

“Then building the tree took two hours.

“A lot of that time is spent stepping back and making small adjustments as I build.”

Katie documented the process in a video shared to TikTok, which has racked up more than one million likes.

In the clip, she can be seen arranging the books in a circle on the floor, gradually building higher until it reaches the ceiling, with a more narrow top to resemble a typical Christmas tree.

She wraps fairy lights around it and tops the tree with a star.

One person joked: “I mean, technically it’s made of tree…”

“Most expensive tree you’ll ever see,” another user said.

Another viewer commented: “Every library and bookstore should be doing this.”

“See I would do this, but then my self sabotaging habits would get an overwhelming craving to read one of the books about half way down the tree,” someone else wrote.

Another person added: “This Christmas tree has probably taken 50 trees to make it.”

Others dubbed it the “tree of knowledge” and “a dream”.

Referring to the stacked shelves behind, another person added: “The fact that you still have books leftover is insane.”
