A woman and her friends have gone viral after revealing that they rented out an entire cinema screen just to play Mario Party.

Kelsey Shankle, like many of us, grew up playing video games.

She and her friends would rush home from school, load up the Nintendo 64, and spend their evenings battling it out on Mario Party.

But as they’ve gotten older, the childhood pastime quickly became a distant memory – until recently.

For a bit of nostalgia, Kelsey, 31, along with four of her friends, loaded up the game once more; this time using an entire cinema screen.

“I’ve been playing since I was a kid, and on and off since then, but not much in recent years,” the senior knowledge management specialist told What’s The Jam.

“In college, it would usually be the four of us playing in one of our apartments.

“But it hasn’t been common for us as adults.

“So this was really nostalgic.”

Kelsey, from Ohio, US, shared the experience on X, racking up over 1.1m views and 35,000 likes.

She captioned the post: “My friend rented a movie theatre screen just to play Mario party lmfao.”

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many people left inspired.

“Dude your friend is so dope omg,” one person said.

Grace added: “This would be a great date honestly. Thanks for the idea.”

“Bouta look into this lol, that’s a dope idea,” someone else commented.

Another user said: “That’s a dream right there lol.”

“Where is this? I thought I made up this concept on my shark tank list? I had no idea this was a thing?” one person added.

Overall, it cost $100 (USD) (£76) for two hours to have the whole cinema screen just to themselves.

And due to the easy setup, it’s something they’re looking at doing again.

She added: “There was a table at the top where the connections were to hook the Switch into the projection system.

“At our rental time, someone in the room got it all going.

“I was worried about the distance, but surprisingly, all our controllers worked fine.

“I love the mini-games and it’s fun being competitive.

“But it’s also up to a bit of luck, which makes for a good time.

“We’re already talking about doing it again with more friends for a Smash Bros game instead.

“Ask your local cinema if they do this kind of thing – it was a lot of fun.”
