A man has successfully heated his entire home by using 133 Lidl doughnuts in an amazing cost-saving stunt.

Marek Hoffmann made a startling discovery after getting fed up of paying huge bills just to keep his place warm.

The YouTuber had been spending over the odds to fill up his log burner – so he decided to swap the wood for a sweeter treat.

He came up with a theory that he could actually save money by heating his home with doughnuts – saving himself a bit of dough.

Sharing his findings with his 1.3m YouTube subscribers, the video racked up a whopping 551,000 views.

“I was just curious if it made any sense,” Marek, from Poland, told What’s The Jam.

“Doughnuts are insanely cheap, and everybody eats them.

“It was the fastest way to burn calories, but the gym works better for your body.”

Marek calculated that one Lidl doughnut, which contains 440 calories, would cost him around 2p (nine groszy).

A calorie in scientific terms is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one millilitre of water by one degree Celsius.

Calories are essentially the measure of how well something will burn.

Marek’s theory stated that 133 doughnuts would equal 10kg of material with a calorific value of 18.5 MJ/kg – exactly the same as the wood.

Bizarrely, the test worked – with Marek able to heat his home for £2.49 worth of doughnuts, less than it would cost to load his log burner with wood, which sets him back £3.94.

After making an air gap in his stove, the snack-powered heating kicked in.

In just five hours, his home had gone from a brisk 14°C to a toasty 22°C.

Viewers were left shocked by the bizarre footage.

One person said: “But he burned calories.”

One other person said: “Fuel depots hate him.”

One person said: “This idea is so absurd that I burst out laughing just by seeing the title.”
