A housemaid was left horrified after a client left her a trail of 100 tiny ducks around their home to make sure she did a thorough job.

Devon Weitman was handed the painstaking task of retrieving the toy ducks – having been instructed to do so in a rude note left for her.

The flat’s owner had placed the many miniature items around the property to “ensure a job well done”.

The 26-year-old was told to retrieve each one and place it back inside the jar to complete the “game”.

Devon’s anger led her to share a post about the experience online, which gained a whopping 3.8m views and more than 161,000 likes.

The cleaner, who started the job bright and early at 7am on a Monday morning, later labelled the depressing gamification of her work “demeaning”.

Heading online, Devon shared pictures of the colourful ducks sprawled across the apartment.

“I was given the key code, the owners were not home – and I walked in to see the note and jar set in front of the door,” Devon told What’s The Jam.

“I read the note a couple times, kind of shocked.

“I had already been paid for the job so I decided to stick around and do the best I could in the time frame.

“I had other jobs to get to, so I could not stick around to find the 34 remaining ducks.

“I kind of pondered it for the day, questioning if I was being petty, but I decided to end the contract at the end of the day.

“It just felt demeaning.”

Devon, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, added: “It’s pretty uncommon for clients to test cleaners in such a bold way.

“I definitely agree that if you’re hiring a cleaner, you should get the job that you pay for.

“But you should be able to talk to your cleaner, trust that they know their profession, or leave a list of priorities – instead of a hundred ducks.”

Viewers were left shocked by the client’s audacity.

Linda said: “Obsessed with the fact that it probably took them just as long to place the ducks as it would to clean their own damn apartment.”

Tania Burning added: “As someone who owns their own cleaning business, this would be my last clean for them.”

Leah declared: “I would walk out.”

One said: “This feels so disrespectful.”
