A beauty influencer has shared a bizarre hack to create “the cheapest and most soothing face mask” – and it costs just 89p.

Bean, a digital creator who has sensitive skin and eczema, goes out of her way to find unique and easy ways to brighten her complexion.

And while her most recent hack looks “hilarious”, fans are calling it “genius”.

In a video that has attracted 14.9 million views so far, Bean peels a cucumber and places the strips all over her face.

“Growing up in Korea, parents would often slice or grate cucumbers and put it on their children’s skin to soothe sunburn,” Bean told What’s The Jam.

“They’d say it was to cool the skin down and brighten it.

“I forgot about this for a while and then remembered it when I got a sunburn a few months ago.

“I thought using a peeler would be more time efficient and it was indeed convenient, albeit hilarious.”

Bean says she now uses the mask hack once a week.

She buys a cucumber for 89p and uses half – popping the rest in her lunchbox for later.

She said: “Research shows that warm, humid conditions tend to make your skin generate more sebum so it’s good to try to reduce the heat.

“The cucumber mask turned out to be a gentle, hydrating solution because putting ice directly on your skin can cause harm.

“It also has vitamin C that helps maintain hydration.”

Bean shared her video on Instagram (@beansauna ) with the caption: “I swear this is the best, cheapest and most soothing face mask you will ever have.”

It garnered 492,000 likes and hundreds of comments from delighted followers.

“This is such a genius idea,” one person wrote.

Another said: “Nothing works like cucumber peel.”

“This has 100% helped me,” another person posted.

Bean says she is glad her tip has gone viral and reached so many people.

She said: “The first time I used big strips of cucumber on me and my friend’s face, we were laughing so hard, so when I was posting the video, I expected amused reactions.

“I had no idea it would get millions of views.

“I’m happy – it’s very wholesome to see people exchanging skincare tips in the comments.”

As for trying it at home, Bean says to proceed with caution.

Bean added: “For people who may be allergic to cucumbers or have many skin sensitivities, I strongly urge people to do a patch test and put only a small bit on their face before covering their entire face with cucumber.

“I myself get contact dermatitis from the strangest things so I want to put out that warning.

“Also, it helps to put the cucumber in the fridge beforehand for maximum cooling effect.”
